The Regenerative Mindset
Harvest in balance, nothing wasted. How to think like a steward rather than an owner.
LESSON 1
From Extraction to Regeneration
The extractive mindset asks: how much can I take?
The sustainable mindset asks: how much can I take without doing harm?
The regenerative mindset asks: how can my taking make the whole system healthier?
This is the fundamental shift. A salmon does not merely avoid harming the river — its lifecycle actively enriches the watershed. Its body feeds the forest. The forest feeds the river. The river feeds the salmon.
The Tlingit people understood this as haa shagóon — the ancestors who are also the descendants. Time is not linear. Stewardship is not sacrifice. It is investment in the system that sustains you.
A Peace Engineer thinks this way about every intervention: does this create conditions where the output feeds the input? Does taking make the system stronger?
